Bill Taylor began his professional safety and health career thirty-five years ago as a corporate safety and health director in the tobacco processing industry. He left private industry for the City of Durham, North Carolina where he managed the City’s safety and health system for 3,500 full, part-time and temporary employees for nearly nine years. In 1988 he began his consulting career with ELB & Associates in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, eventually forming, along with his two partners, the consulting firm of Coble, Taylor & Jones Safety Associates. In 2011, Bill joined The EI Group as Principal Safety Scientist.
Bill is an authorized outreach instructor (general industry) and has been teaching OSHA Outreach courses since 1989. He is a certified safety professional and professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers since 1980. Bill is also past president of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers, past president of the North Carolina Association of Local Governmental Employee Safety Officials, and past chairman of the Mid-State Safety Council.
He is a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard with a degree in manufacturing engineering. He has also completed coursework in ergonomics at North Carolina State University and safety management at The University of Alabama.
Bill is a frequent speaker at state, national and international events and conferences and has authored award-winning articles on various safety and health topics. He is also the author of Effective Environmental, Health and Safety Management Using the Team Approach (John Wiley & Sons, Inc. August, 2005) in addition to numerous magazine articles.
